Tottenham Hotspur fans have slammed Micky van de Ven following his red card during their 3–1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The loss dealt another serious blow to Spurs’ survival hopes, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone. The night had started positively when Dominic Solanke fired Tottenham ahead midway through the first half, but the match quickly unravelled after van de Ven was sent off.
The Dutch defender hauled down Ismaila Sarr inside the penalty area, a moment that derailed Tottenham’s plans and triggered their collapse. In the aftermath, furious supporters took to social media demanding that the centre-back never play for the club again.
Van de Ven had captained Spurs in the absence of the suspended Cristian Romero, yet many fans felt his actions showed a lack of leadership. With the club fighting to avoid relegation, supporters believe such costly mistakes simply cannot happen.
The backlash online was fierce, with some fans calling for the 24-year-old to be dropped permanently, while others even blamed him for potentially sending the club down to the Championship.
Meanwhile, speculation over van de Ven’s future continues. Reports have linked him with a possible move to Liverpool FC as a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. However, if Tottenham were to suffer relegation, a major transfer could become unlikely.
The defender’s recent form has also raised concerns. In each of his last eight appearances before the Palace game, Spurs conceded at least two goals. His dismissal against Palace only added to the growing criticism and summed up Tottenham’s difficult season.
Van de Ven will now miss Spurs’ upcoming trip to Anfield due to suspension, adding further pressure on a team already struggling near the bottom of the tab“Sack him” – Tottenham supporters blast ‘disgraceful’ Micky van de Ven as fans fear relegation. ⚽😡le. ⚽😬
