Thomas Frank has been dismissed by Tottenham after a disastrous spell saw the club slump to 16th in the Premier League table.
The Dane has endured a difficult tenure since taking charge of the Europa League holders, and Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle proved to be the final straw. The defeat left Spurs just five points clear of the relegation zone.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the decision was made on Wednesday morning following a miserable run of eight league matches without a victory. An official announcement from the club is still pending.
The news comes shortly after Frank insisted he was confident he would still be in charge for Spurs’ next league fixture against Arsenal on February 22.
“Yes, I am convinced I will be,” he told Sky Sports. “I understand the question. It’s easy to point at me, but it’s never only the head coach — it’s ownership, players, staff. It’s everyone.
“We all know the position we’re in and what we must improve. That’s what we’re working hard on.”
As for his successor, bookmakers have installed former boss Mauricio Pochettino as the leading candidate to return, with Roberto De Zerbi — who recently parted ways with Marseille by mutual consent — also among the frontrunners.
