Tottenham Hotspur have ranked among the Premier League’s five lowest teams for expected goals on at least three occasions this season, underlining the mounting frustration among supporters. Many fans say they struggle to recall a period when Spurs have looked so consistently ineffective going forward.
That lack of cutting edge was evident again on Sunday at the City Ground, where Tottenham managed just a single shot on target across the entire match. Despite the continued attacking problems, Thomas Frank remains confident he can steer the club back onto the right path.
Frank: Change will take time
Tottenham have traditionally shown little patience with managers when results and performances decline. However, with Daniel Levy stepping down in September and a new leadership structure now in place, Frank has insisted that meaningful progress cannot happen overnight.
When asked whether he expects the necessary backing to oversee a rebuild, the Spurs boss told Football.London:
“I don’t see why not. If no one is given time, then no one can solve this. This isn’t something that can be fixed quickly.”
Why the next two weeks matter
According to reports, Frank is not facing immediate pressure, with the club’s hierarchy willing to support him through this difficult spell. A rare pause from midweek matches over the next fortnight is also viewed as a significant advantage.
With no fixtures to disrupt preparations, Frank and his coaching staff plan to make full use of the extended training period to address the team’s issues.
Explaining the importance of the break, Frank said:
“Firstly, we finally have close to a full week going into the Liverpool game. Then there are eight days before Palace, which gives us time to train and try to improve certain aspects.
“That’s the challenge. There are no complaints — it’s simply the reality. When games come one after another, it’s much harder to make changes. That’s why these next two weeks are so important. After that, we have five matches in a short period, so it’s about planning and organising everything properly.”
Tottenham’s upcoming schedule features league clashes with Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Sunderland and Bournemouth — a sequence of games that could prove pivotal for both Frank and his players.
