Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has confirmed he will speak to Djed Spence following an incident during Spurs’ heavy 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
A brace from Callum Hudson-Odoi and a stunning long-range effort by Ibrahim Sangaré ensured a routine win for Forest at the City Ground. Tottenham struggled throughout the match, managing just one shot on target. Their problems were compounded early on when Archie Gray was caught in possession near his own box after a short pass from Guglielmo Vicario, leading to Forest’s opener.
The defeat leaves Spurs 11th in the Premier League, with only one victory from their last seven games, increasing pressure on Frank as supporters grow frustrated with recent performances.
Frank also faced criticism for his in-game decisions, particularly his substitutions while trailing 2-0, as Ben Davies and João Palhinha were introduced. Spence, who had flourished as one of England’s standout full-backs under Ange Postecoglou last season, was withdrawn around the hour mark to make way for Davies.
According to the London Evening Standard, Spence reacted angrily to being substituted, gesturing towards the bench before throwing his jacket to the ground on his return to the dugout. Frank admitted he did not witness the incident but confirmed he would address it with the defender.
“I’ve heard about it a few times today,” Frank said after the match. “I didn’t see it, but I’ll review it. There could be different reasons — frustration with his own performance, the team’s display, or being taken off. I’ll speak to him about it.”
Tottenham return to action on Saturday when they host Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
