Tottenham and Liverpool could be without 15 players ahead of weekend clash

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are both expected to be without several players when they face each other in the Premier League this weekend.

Spurs welcome the defending champions to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, aiming to respond after last weekend’s heavy 3–0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest.

Speculation has continued to grow around Thomas Frank’s position as Tottenham head coach, especially following the setback against Forest. Since taking over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer, Frank has also had to contend with a number of injury issues within his squad.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are facing similar problems, with multiple players sidelined through injury. Both teams are also missing squad members who are currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Below is a look at the players who could be absent for Tottenham vs Liverpool this weekend:

James Maddison – The midfielder is still recovering from the ACL injury he sustained in the summer and is not expected back until next year.

Dejan Kulusevski – Kulusevski remains out with a knee problem, with no clear return date yet for the Sweden international.

Destiny Udogie – After a short break during the international window, Udogie has returned to work with Spurs’ coaching staff but is still recovering from a hamstring injury and is unlikely to return before the New Year.

Dominic Solanke – The striker has been sidelined for much of the season with a foot injury and will miss the clash with Liverpool.

Pape Matar Sarr – The midfielder is currently away with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Yves Bissouma – Bissouma is also unavailable, representing Mali at AFCON.

Radu Drăgușin – The defender continues his recovery from a knee injury carried over from last season.

Kota Takai – Takai is out with a muscle injury and, despite stepping up his recovery in recent weeks, will not be fit in time to face Liverpool.

For Liverpool:

Jeremie Frimpong – The full-back has been recovering from a hamstring injury for around two months and is edging closer to a return.

Joe Gomez – Gomez is expected to miss the trip to Tottenham due to a muscle problem.

Dominik Szoboszlai – The midfielder became an injury doubt after the win over Brighton but could still be in contention to feature.

Mohamed Salah – Salah is unavailable for the foreseeable future while on international duty with Egypt at AFCON.

Giovanni Leoni – Liverpool’s summer signing remains sidelined as he continues to recover from the ACL injury he suffered in September.
