Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with CD Atlético Baleares to re-sign former academy midfielder Armando Shashoua, a deal earlier confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The move marks a return for a player nurtured in Spurs’ youth ranks who went on to build his career in Spain, with the club confident his arrival will bring energy, depth and a strong understanding of their midfield setup.
The transfer fits neatly into Tottenham’s long-term plan of reinforcing both the first team and development pathway while restoring a solid homegrown foundation. Reuniting with an academy graduate who already understands the club’s values and environment aligns perfectly with that strategy.
Shashoua first joined Tottenham’s academy in 2008 at the age of eight and quickly stood out for his technical quality, intelligent movement and calmness on the ball. Despite training with the senior squad, he never featured competitively and was loaned to Atlético Baleares in 2020 — a move that proved decisive. After four appearances, the Spanish club made the deal permanent.
From 2020 to 2022, Shashoua enjoyed the most productive spell of his career, registering four goals in 43 appearances for Baleares. His consistency, work ethic and tactical intelligence saw him become a regular, attracting attention from elsewhere in Spain. He later moved to Ibiza in 2022, playing 10 matches, before a loan stint at Córdoba in early 2023 added another 10 appearances to his résumé.
He returned to Atlético Baleares towards the end of 2023 and featured 26 times, scoring once during the 2023–24 season. That continued progress is understood to have kept him on Tottenham’s radar, with the club viewing him as a low-risk addition with clear upside. As a homegrown player already familiar with Spurs’ culture, they believe he can quickly raise training levels, offer squad rotation and provide tactical flexibility.
Atlético Baleares have spoken positively about Shashoua’s move back to a Premier League side, while admitting his exit leaves a noticeable void after three influential spells with the club.
Shashoua is said to be thrilled at the opportunity to return to North London, completing a full-circle journey back to where his footballing path began.
As Tottenham look to define the next phase of their project, the decision to bring back a former academy talent underlines a renewed focus on identity and long-term vision. Spurs are welcoming home a player who knows the club inside out, believes in its culture and is determined to earn his future in North London.
