Tottenham fans have accused Djed Spence of thinking too highly of himself after Spurs were hammered 4–1 by arch-rivals Arsenal.
It proved a disastrous first outing for interim head coach Igor Tudor, with the defeat leaving Spurs hovering just four points above the drop zone. Arsenal were relentless in attack, as Eberechi Eze — who had also struck a hat-trick in the earlier meeting — and Viktor Gyokeres found the net. Randal Kolo Muani briefly gave Tottenham hope with a first-half leveller, but with only 11 Premier League fixtures remaining, Tudor faces a daunting task.
Spence slammed as “the worst player” on the pitch
Charged with keeping Bukayo Saka quiet, Spence struggled badly as Arsenal repeatedly targeted Tottenham’s vulnerable backline. The 25-year-old managed to win only five of his 15 ground duels, gave away four fouls, and made an error that resulted in a dangerous effort on goal.
With Destiny Udogie, Pedro Porro, and Ben Davies all sidelined through injury, Tudor had few alternatives, thrusting Spence into a prominent role. Despite receiving an England call-up this campaign and being linked with Thomas Tuchel’s prospective World Cup plans, supporters did not hold back. One fan branded him “bang average,” while another questioned why the club would continue backing a player they deemed “useless.”
