Tottenham have a once-in-a-generation prospect primed to step straight into the first team as £100m transfer stance emerges

Tottenham supporters are constantly calling for new signings to strengthen the squad, but the club may already have its next star in-house.

Chairman Daniel Levy has often been criticised by fans for a perceived lack of spending in the transfer market. That argument, however, carried little weight last summer after Spurs invested close to £180million on new arrivals.

According to Lilywhites insider John Wenham, Tottenham do not need to repeat that level of expenditure. Instead, he believes the club should be far more selective with its recruitment.

Wenham argues that Spurs should only target elite, game-changing players in the £80–£100million bracket, rather than mid-range signings that could block the development of young talent. He pointed to highly rated defender Luka Vuskovic as a prime example, insisting the teenager is already good enough to step into the first team next season.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“There’s no point fans calling for endless new signings. As a club, we should only be bringing in truly world-class players in that £80–£100million range — players who come in and immediately improve the starting XI. We’ve moved past the stage where £25–£30million signings make sense, because they simply block pathways now.

“Fans are talking about signing another centre-back, but we already have Luka Vuskovic, who is widely seen as a generational talent. At just 18, he’s starting for Croatia and playing regularly in the Bundesliga on loan at Hamburg, earning rave reviews.

“There needs to be a clear path for him to return next summer. With Romero, Van de Ven and Danso already here, another centre-back isn’t necessary. Vuskovic should be coming back to compete for a spot. Adding another average player just doesn’t add up, even though fans always want the next shiny new signing.”

Why Spurs should prioritise youth

Tottenham must begin trusting their academy prospects, with the progress of players like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray highlighting the benefits of doing so.

Youngsters such as Luca Williams-Barnett and Tynan Thompson are also close to first-team opportunities, but without meaningful chances, their potential may never be realised.

As Wenham suggests, Vuskovic deserves his shot when he returns, given his immense promise. Spurs need to fully utilise their young talent and make the most of their world-class facilities if they are to build a sustainable and successful future.
