Tottenham Hotspur have finalised the signing of highly rated Brazilian youngster Souza, with head coach Thomas Frank confirming the arrival of the 19-year-old left-back from Santos on a long-term contract.
The deal comes during a challenging spell for Spurs, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League as Frank continues his efforts to steady performances and push the team back on track.
Souza, a Brazil U-17 international, only made his Santos senior debut last season but quickly caught the eye, featuring 24 times for the club. His move to north London represents a significant milestone in his career and marks Frank’s second January signing after the addition of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Souza said joining Tottenham is the realisation of a childhood dream, admitting he grew up watching the Premier League. He described the move as a major chance to improve, test himself, and grow at a higher level.
Frank also expressed his excitement, hailing Souza as a dynamic and technically strong full-back. He believes the teenager is among the most promising young left-backs around, with the ability to contribute immediately while continuing his development.
Despite pressure surrounding his role, Frank remains confident in the club’s direction. A morale-boosting Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek has lifted confidence, and the manager highlighted the importance of togetherness and the backing he continues to receive from the board.
Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend against Burnley. Sitting 10 points clear of the relegation zone and eight points off the top four, Spurs will be hoping Souza can make an early impact as they look to build momentum and move up the table.
