Tottenham Hotspur have faced a major setback in their managerial hunt, as reports suggest Mauricio Pochettino is close to agreeing to become Real Madrid’s next head coach.
The club confirmed on Friday that former Juventus manager Igor Tudor will take over as interim boss following Thomas Frank’s dismissal earlier this week. Frank’s departure came after a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, prompting the club’s leadership to act. A permanent replacement is expected to be appointed during the summer.
Any chances of reuniting with Pochettino now seem slim. Spanish outlet Defensa Central reports that the Argentine has reached a preliminary agreement to replace Alvaro Arbeloa at Real Madrid, provided the club secures three key signings. Pochettino is reportedly asking for two centre-backs and a midfielder to strengthen the squad long-term, conditions aligned with the club’s transfer plans.
While Pochettino remains an outside contender for future roles, Real Madrid are reportedly considering several managerial options. He is not expected to join any club before the World Cup, as he is focused on leading the United States national team on home soil.
Meanwhile, Tudor has expressed pride in stepping into the Tottenham role. In an interview with the club’s official website, he called it an honour to take charge during a crucial period and emphasized his aim to bring consistency, organise the squad, and improve results quickly.
Sporting director Johan Lange also praised Tudor, citing his experience with high-pressure situations and ability to make an immediate impact. The club’s short-term goal is to stabilise performances, maximise the squad’s potential, and compete strongly in both the Premier League and Champions League.
