Liverpool FC may have received a small boost ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur after Spurs boss Igor Tudor revealed further worrying news about his squad.
Both sides head into the clash at Anfield with confidence slightly shaken following disappointing European results during the week. However, Tottenham appear to be facing far greater issues when it comes to player availability.
According to The Standard, the Spurs manager confirmed that a number of players will miss the trip to Merseyside, with concussion concerns and suspensions adding to an already lengthy list of absentees.
Cristian Romero and João Palhinha have both been ruled out after suffering concussions during Tottenham’s heavy 5–2 defeat to Atlético Madrid. Romero’s absence is particularly notable given he had only recently returned to the lineup.
When asked about their situation, Tudor left little doubt.
“No, no, no, they are out,” the Tottenham manager said.
“I’m not sure how long they’ll be unavailable, but I expect they could be back for the match against Nottingham Forest, possibly even in time for the Champions League.”
Tottenham’s injury list keeps growing
Romero and Palhinha are not the only players missing for the trip to Anfield.
Tudor also confirmed that Micky van de Ven will be absent through suspension, while Yves Bissouma is also unavailable.
The Croatian coach admitted that the growing list of absences is making it extremely difficult to assemble a starting lineup.
“Micky is also out. Bissouma is out,” Tudor explained.
“Conor Gallagher has a fever but might still be available. We again have many problems trying to put together the first eleven. This is how it is at this club — it seems to happen all the time.”
His comments highlight the difficult mood surrounding Tottenham ahead of the weekend fixture.
Liverpool have minor concerns too
While Tottenham’s situation appears more severe, Liverpool are not entirely free of injury worries.
Earlier in the week, both Federico Chiesa and Alisson Becker were considered doubts, although manager Arne Slot has since sounded optimistic about the Brazilian goalkeeper’s chances of returning.
Speaking on Friday at the AXA Training Centre, Slot revealed that Alisson had been working closely with the medical team and could still rejoin full training.
“He’s been with the physios during rehab and we’ll see today if he can train with the team,” Slot said. “I expect that he might, but I’m not completely sure yet.”
Despite their own concerns, Liverpool may view Sunday’s clash as a major opportunity, especially with Tottenham arriving at Anfield with a depleted squad and mounting pressure following their disappointing midweek defeat in Turkey. ⚽🔥
