Strong Champions League displays have helped mask deeper issues, but Spurs’ domestic struggles continue to raise concern, with their Premier League form threatening to undermine the entire campaign.
While Spurs remain within reach of the European places, the numbers paint a worrying picture. Just two victories in their last 14 league games underline a dramatic drop below expectations. A lack of consistency has become a recurring problem, and supporter frustration is growing as impressive European nights contrast sharply with flat league performances.
The squad undoubtedly has the quality to deliver more. With the season entering its decisive phase, Spurs must quickly rediscover confidence, cohesion and a sharper edge in attack. Frank is aware, however, that internal improvement alone may not be enough. With the transfer deadline approaching, reinforcements could be crucial in salvaging the season.
Where Tottenham could strengthen
Conor Gallagher has already injected intensity and drive into midfield, with his tireless pressing and work rate adding balance and structure to Frank’s system. His arrival has helped Spurs compete more effectively in central areas and brought much-needed energy to the side.
Further forward, though, concerns persist. Dominic Solanke’s return to form has reduced the urgency for another striker, but Tottenham still lack creativity and pace in wide positions. Injuries and departures have left Frank short of natural wingers, limiting Spurs’ attacking variety.
The sale of Brennan Johnson removed an important outlet, while Mohammed Kudus is not expected to return until after the March international break. As a result, Spurs have often looked predictable and short of penetration in the final third. According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are now among several clubs tracking Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz, though competition from Aston Villa, Newcastle and overseas sides is intense.
Diaz, 24, has struggled for consistent minutes under Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa, and with his representatives assessing options, a move appears increasingly possible. Any deal would likely cost around £52m — a significant outlay, but one Spurs may view as necessary to revive their campaign.
What Brahim Diaz could bring
A Manchester City academy product, Diaz made 15 senior appearances before joining Real Madrid in January 2019. He has since featured over 140 times for the Spanish giants, winning the Champions League and two La Liga titles.
His development was accelerated during a three-year loan spell at AC Milan, where he established himself as a fan favourite. Scouts and analysts frequently praised his close control, balance and creativity, particularly in tight areas.
This season, however, opportunities have been limited. Diaz has started only three La Liga matches and one in Europe, highlighting the challenge of breaking into Real Madrid’s crowded attack. Since Xabi Alonso’s recent departure, his role has diminished further, making a transfer appealing for all parties.
For Tottenham, Diaz’s versatility stands out. With Kudus sidelined, he could immediately fill in on the right, while also offering a left-sided option capable of contributing goals and assists. He can operate centrally as a number ten or even as a false nine, giving Frank valuable tactical flexibility and reducing predictability during matches.
Crucially, Diaz would bring confidence, flair and attacking momentum — qualities Spurs have often lacked in league games this season. His previous Premier League experience means adaptation should be swift, and he has matured significantly since his time in England.
While Gallagher has helped steady the midfield, Spurs still need an attacking catalyst to lift performances and belief. Diaz could be that spark, driving a late push up the table and easing the growing pressure on Thomas Frank.
If Tottenham are serious about reigniting their season, investing in creativity and pace before the window closes could prove to be the defining decision of their campaign.
