Tottenham Hotspur are said to be exploring different strategies in their bid to sign Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo, with the club reluctant to pay an inflated fee for the highly rated forward. Semenyo’s impressive form has drawn plenty of interest, prompting Spurs to consider more inventive solutions to complete a potential transfer.
According to Spurs insider John Wenham, one option under consideration is a player-exchange deal to help lower the overall cost. With Bournemouth believed to be demanding a hefty sum, Wenham feels Tottenham may need to include one of their own players to make progress in talks.
Brennan Johnson is the name being linked with such a move. Discussing the idea, Wenham explained:
“Tottenham are fully aware that Bournemouth won’t let Semenyo go on the cheap. Brennan Johnson still carries good Premier League value, and a swap deal could make sense for all parties. It wouldn’t be about offloading him, but about balancing the finances.”
Since joining Spurs, Johnson has delivered moments of promise but has found it difficult to cement a regular starting role. With growing competition in Tottenham’s forward line, the club could see him as a valuable bargaining chip to help secure a deal for a stronger, more adaptable attacking option.
From Bournemouth’s perspective, adding an established Premier League winger plus a cash payment could be appealing if Semenyo looks to move on. Johnson’s speed and direct approach would provide an immediate replacement and soften the blow of losing one of their key players.
Although no official negotiations have yet been reported, Wenham’s remarks suggest Tottenham are open to flexibility in the transfer market. As the window draws closer, a swap deal may emerge as the most practical route for Spurs to land Semenyo.
