Tottenham supporters were left frustrated with Mohammed Kudus after his ineffective display in the goalless draw against Brentford on New Year’s Day.
Spurs opened 2026 with a dull stalemate in West London, piling more pressure on Thomas Frank as the team’s recent performances continue to lack spark and conviction. Brentford went closer to scoring through Keane Lewis-Potter and Igor Thiago after the break, while Tottenham managed just 0.86 expected goals across the match.
Kudus, who impressed in December’s 2-0 win over the Bees, struggled badly this time, his performance reflecting Spurs’ wider attacking issues. The club now sits 12th in the Premier League, having won only two of their last 10 league games, and Frank’s position is increasingly under threat.
Despite failing to score or assist in the earlier meeting with Brentford, Kudus was influential in that win, leading the team for chances created, dribbles completed, pass accuracy and ground duels won. On New Year’s Day, however, he offered little impact. Tottenham registered just three shots on target and failed to carve out a clear-cut chance, while Kudus created none from the right wing and had only two touches inside the Brentford box despite playing the full 90 minutes.
Usually dangerous with the ball, the Ghanaian completed only two of six dribbles, lost possession five times and won just three of 13 ground duels — the worst record on the pitch.
With Brennan Johnson set to join Crystal Palace, many fans wished he had been available off the bench instead of watching Kudus struggle on the right.
Although Kudus has been an important figure since his summer move from West Ham, his return of one goal and one assist in his last 11 league matches has drawn criticism. After the game, frustrated supporters took to X, with one branding him “a one-trick pony” whose effectiveness has faded.
