Tottenham supporters have had little to cheer about recently, with the club once again struggling through a disappointing domestic season.
Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League following Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Burnley, a result that has only intensified frustration among the fanbase. While pressure continues to mount on head coach Thomas Frank, the current stance from the club’s hierarchy is that they remain supportive of him for now.
Their Champions League run has at least offered some relief from league woes, and events unfolding at Crystal Palace have given Spurs fans another reason to feel upbeat.
Spurs fans pleased with Brennan Johnson deal
Tottenham sanctioned the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace earlier in the January transfer window, bringing in a sizeable £35million for the winger. Johnson had endured a difficult spell at Spurs this season, and his struggles have followed him to Selhurst Park, where he has yet to register a goal or assist in his first five appearances.
His performances have already tested the patience of Palace supporters, with one fan on X admitting they were “baffled” by paying “more than a tenner” for him. That reaction has gone down well with Tottenham fans, who have taken to social media to hail the deal. Some have described it as “one of the biggest robberies ever,” while others called it a Spurs “masterstroke,” with a few noting Johnson appears “even more anonymous” than he was in North London.
Van de Ven future uncertain
Tottenham could face further concern in the months ahead, with Football Insider reporting that Micky van de Ven may consider pushing for an exit if results fail to improve before the end of the season.
The Dutch defender has been one of Spurs’ standout performers, but his ambition to play Champions League football could become an issue this summer. With Frank’s side currently far from challenging for a top-four finish, Van de Ven may look elsewhere for that opportunity.
Although the 24-year-old is contracted until 2029 and Spurs would demand a significant fee, the situation remains far from ideal for the club at present.
