Thomas Frank is eager to strengthen his squad at N17 as soon as possible.
Tottenham’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa has only deepened supporter frustration, with many feeling the team urgently needs players who can make an instant impact.
So far, Spurs have added Mason Melia in a £1.6m move, while a £13m agreement has also been reached for Santos left-back Souza. Interest has also surfaced in Conor Gallagher, and Tottenham are believed to have made an approach for Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz — although prising him away may prove difficult if Xabi Alonso stands firm.
Real Madrid stance on Brahim Diaz
Los Blancos are reluctant to part with Diaz unless they receive an exceptional bid. Alonso has previously praised the forward highly, but Tottenham’s interest has placed his future under the spotlight. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spurs have submitted an offer worth £52m for the Morocco international, who is currently starring for his country at AFCON.
Madrid’s position remains clear: Diaz is not for sale unless a substantial proposal arrives. Internally, the club are said to have set a minimum valuation of £35m, below which they would not even enter talks for the 26-year-old.
Tottenham’s opening bid comfortably exceeds that figure, meaning negotiations could still advance despite Madrid’s initial resistance. The Spanish giants may struggle to reject such a fee for a player who is not a regular starter, particularly given his market value.
Why Diaz would be a huge signing for Spurs
Diaz made AFCON history on Friday by becoming the first Moroccan player to score in five consecutive matches at a single tournament, helping his side reach the semi-finals with a win over Cameroon.
Since joining Real Madrid from Manchester City for £15m in 2019, he has made 129 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 23 assists. He also spent three seasons on loan at AC Milan, where he featured 124 times, scoring 18 goals and registering 15 assists — and played a key role in their 2021/22 title triumph.

Diaz could slot straight in on the right wing as a replacement for Mohammed Kudus, and with Brennan Johnson having been sold to Crystal Palace for £35m, Tottenham are in urgent need of attacking reinforcements.
With Frank under mounting pressure, Spurs may need to provide significant financial backing to push through a deal for Diaz.
