A new update has emerged surrounding Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of the Italian coach.
Igor Tudor is widely expected to leave Spurs by mutual consent this week after failing to spark improvement since replacing Thomas Frank in February. During his brief spell in charge, Tottenham have suffered four defeats in five matches, sliding dangerously close to the relegation zone. The North London club currently sit just one point above the drop with only seven fixtures left to play.
A number of short-term options have been discussed as potential interim managers, including Adi Hütter and Chris Hughton, while Ryan Mason, Sean Dyche, and Robbie Keane have also been linked with the role.
Spurs Step Up Interest in De Zerbi
Earlier reports on Wednesday indicated that Tottenham were speeding up their search for a permanent manager before the season ends, with De Zerbi identified as their preferred candidate.
The Italian coach recently left his role at Olympique de Marseille shortly before Frank was dismissed, fueling speculation that Spurs had already lined him up as their next boss. Although that move did not happen immediately, the club remain keen to begin formal discussions about appointing him on a long-term deal.
Decision Likely to Wait Until Summer
However, the latest information from Italy suggests De Zerbi is not rushing back into management. According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, he plans to stick with his original intention of waiting until the summer before deciding on his next step.
While Tottenham remain an option, the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager wants to review all opportunities once the season concludes and has already ruled out accepting any job before then.
Spurs are still believed to consider both De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino as leading contenders for the permanent position.
With a brief pause before their next Premier League match, club officials are holding internal talks to decide whether another managerial change should be made before the end of the campaign. A final decision is expected soon, giving any new coach time to stamp their authority on the squad.
