Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain continue to hold regular conversations over a possible transfer for Bradley Barcola, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the two clubs are now in touch on a daily basis.
The 23-year-old winger has been Liverpool’s top summer target, and while the Reds are said to be willing to pay up to £120m, PSG are holding out for closer to £145m. PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi added fuel to the speculation this week, admitting after the UEFA Super Cup that he could not guarantee Barcola would stay at the club.
Romano told CaughtOffside that Al Khelaifi’s comments effectively confirmed the winger isn’t untouchable, and that talks between the two clubs are happening daily. According to Romano, Barcola himself wants the move and personal terms aren’t a sticking point — the entire deal now hinges on the fee. He noted that offers in the €110-120m range won’t be enough to satisfy PSG, given the scale of package they’re after, but stressed that Barcola remains Liverpool’s clear priority target at winger and that talks are far from over.
With the player pushing for the switch and PSG seemingly open to selling, money is now the only real obstacle left. Liverpool may need to approach the levels of the £125m they paid for Alexander Isak last year to get PSG to budge, though PSG’s other business could shift things — they’re reportedly closing in on Ferran Torres from Barcelona and preparing another offer for Ajax’s Mika Godts, moves that could leave them with a glut of attacking options and make cashing in on Barcola more appealing. With August already half over, Liverpool are expected to test PSG’s resolve with a bid north of £100m before loong.
