Manchester United could derail Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG attacker Ibrahim Mbaye.

Manchester United could emerge as a serious threat to Liverpool’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye.

The Red Devils have stepped up their interest in the 18-year-old as Michael Carrick looks to add more attacking quality before the summer transfer window closes.

United Open Talks Over Mbaye

According to reports from Football FanCast, Manchester United have held direct discussions with Mbaye’s representatives to determine whether the teenager would be interested in a move to Old Trafford and to learn more about his wage expectations.

United are looking for greater competition for Amad on the right side while also targeting a versatile attacker capable of operating in several positions, similar to Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbaye fits that profile and is regarded as a player with considerable potential. The teenager is reportedly open to moving to the Premier League, which could strengthen United’s position if PSG are willing to negotiate.

Another attraction for Mbaye is the opportunity to play Champions League football, something United can offer this season.

The winger made PSG history when he became the club’s youngest-ever starter at just 16 years, six months and 23 days old. He has since made 41 senior appearances for the French champions.

United have also seen his qualities first-hand, with Mbaye scoring against them during their recent 1-1 pre-season draw.

Liverpool’s reported decision to cool their interest could provide another boost for United. FourFourTwo claims the Reds have been put off by the overall cost of the deal while also focusing on their pursuit of Bradley Barcola. Mbaye is reportedly valued between €40m and €50m.

Mbaye Could Be a Smart Long-Term Signing

Mbaye could represent the type of young, high-potential signing Manchester United should consider.

With Amad and Mbeumo already in the squad, there would be no immediate pressure on the teenager to become a regular starter. Instead, Carrick could gradually develop him while making use of his pace, directness and ability to play on either flank.

PSG’s strength in attack could also work in United’s favour. Mbaye faces fierce competition for minutes from players such as Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Barcola, potentially making a move away from Paris more appealing.

The reported €50m asking price remains a major consideration, though. Spending that amount on an 18-year-old would be a significant gamble, particularly with United still needing reinforcements in other areas.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s apparent withdrawal from the race would eliminate one of United’s biggest competitors, while Mbaye’s reported willingness to move to England gives the Red Devils genuine reason to believe they can win the race for his signature.
