Liverpool have been cautioned that their drawn-out chase of Bradley Barcola risks being gazumped at the last minute unless they speed up talks with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Reds are still hunting for another attacking addition before the window shuts, having already brought in Spanish winger Victor Muñoz from Osasuna. Liverpool are also looking to bolster their forward options following Mohamed Salah’s move to Trabzonspor after nearly a decade at the club.
The Reds had originally zeroed in on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but his stated preference for PSG or Real Madrid pushed Liverpool to shift focus toward Barcola instead.
PSG’s initial asking price sat around €150 million for the French forward, leading Liverpool to play a waiting game in hopes of talking the fee down.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool’s plan is to hold off until late in the window, banking on PSG softening their stance as their attacking options continue to pile up.
That patience could backfire, though, if PSG choose to keep hold of Barcola or a rival club swoops in.
Liverpool are said to have had an opening offer worth roughly £98 million knocked back, before returning with an improved bid of €135 million (£115 million).
Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele suggested talks could pick up pace this week, with the revised proposal potentially bringing the two sides closer to a resolution.
Steele also conceded a hijack can’t be ruled out, though Barcola’s reported preference for a move to Anfield may work in Liverpool’s favour.
With the clock ticking, Liverpool now face a pivotal choice: keep waiting for PSG’s valuation to drop, or push harder to avoid losing out to another suitor.
