Tottenham Await Star’s Verdict As Fabrizio Romano Reveals His Pick

Tottenham Hotspur look set for further transfer business, with reports suggesting Fabrizio Romano expects the club to land at least three more additions before the summer window shuts.

Spurs already had a hectic start to the window, wrapping up six signings by early July as they moved fast to reinforce their defence and midfield under Roberto De Zerbi, who’s building toward a squad capable of pushing much higher up the table.

That flurry of business has cooled off lately though, with focus now shifting to the front line. Tottenham are said to be zeroing in on new wide players while still weighing up whether a fresh striker is also needed before deadline day on September 1.

Manchester City’s Savinho is understood to be Tottenham’s number one target out wide, with the club viewing the Brazilian as their ideal solution to boost the attack. Talks with City are said to be ongoing, though not without complications. Should that deal collapse, Wolves winger Pedro Neto is reportedly lined up as the fallback option — meaning Spurs essentially have a two-horse race for the wing spot, with Savinho currently favourite. City, for their part, are said to want a replacement lined up before letting the Brazilian leave, which could slow things down for Tottenham.

Cody Gakpo is another player firmly on Spurs’ radar. Discussions over a move for the Liverpool forward are reportedly happening daily, and encouragingly for Tottenham, the Dutch international is said to be open to the switch. Liverpool, much like City, are expected to insist on bringing in a replacement first, which could complicate and drag out negotiations as the deadline nears — leaving Tottenham with plenty to sort out if they want both Gakpo and Savinho through the door in time.

The picture up front is murkier. While talks over a new number nine are reportedly ongoing, there’s no obvious frontrunner yet. Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi had been on the radar before a fresh injury setback, while Monaco’s Folarin Balogun has also been mentioned, though a serious approach for him looks unlikely at this stage. Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush has been floated as another possible option, though it’s not yet clear if Spurs will push for him seriously.

Ivan Toney’s name has also cropped up as a possible answer. The former Brentford striker built a strong reputation in the Premier League and has kept scoring since his move to Saudi side Al Ahli. Given his existing Premier League pedigree, he wouldn’t need time to adjust to English football — something that could appeal to De Zerbi if he wants a striker capable of contributing right away.

Victor Osimhen remains a name in the conversation too, though a deal for him looks far trickier. The Nigerian is one of the continent’s most prolific scorers, but concerns over wages and the overall cost of a deal — plus his lack of Premier League experience — mean Spurs would need to think carefully before pursuing him.

For now, strengthening the wings looks like Tottenham’s clearest priority, with Savinho and Gakpo the headline targets and Neto waiting in the wings as insurance. With deadline day approaching, Spurs face some big calls on how hard to push for their remaining targets — but if Romano’s information holds up, De Zerbi could end the window with a notably stronger, more balanced attack to work with.
