With just over a week remaining before the summer transfer window closes, Liverpool are expected to be involved in plenty of activity at both ends of the market.
The Reds have already completed three signings, but further business could be on the way, with the club reportedly targeting at least two more wingers. There could also be several departures, with Curtis Jones already completing his switch to Inter Milan and other players facing uncertain futures.
Here is the latest Liverpool transfer news and speculation ahead of another busy day.
Bradley Barcola (PSG)
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola continues to stretch into the closing stages of the transfer window, with the Reds still trying to reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over the winger’s valuation.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs believes the eventual fee could be closer to the amounts Chelsea paid for Morgan Rogers and Manchester City spent on Elliot Anderson.
Speaking on The Football Terrace, Jacobs said he expects Liverpool to submit a formal offer before the window shuts. He suggested that if the bid exceeds the fees paid for Rogers and Anderson while moving closer to the figure involved in Yan Diomande’s transfer, Liverpool could have a realistic chance of completing the deal.
The negotiations were always expected to be complicated because of the significant difference between Liverpool and PSG’s valuations. Liverpool’s priority has been to reduce the asking price, and a fee around the level of the Rogers and Anderson deals would still represent a major investment, but it would be considerably lower than PSG’s original demands.
With the deadline approaching, however, both clubs will need to find common ground soon if the transfer is to happen.
Stefan Bajcetic (Liverpool)
Stefan Bajcetic could also leave Anfield before the transfer window closes, with the midfielder entering the final year of his Liverpool contract.
The Spaniard has attracted interest from Getafe, while former club Celta Vigo are also monitoring his situation. According to Faro de Vigo, though, Celta would only be prepared to bring Bajcetic back if Liverpool agree to terminate his contract early, allowing him to join as a free agent.
Bajcetic’s progress at Liverpool has been severely affected by injuries over recent seasons, preventing him from establishing himself as a regular first-team player.
With his contract expiring next summer, a departure now could be possible, although it remains uncertain whether Liverpool would prefer to collect a transfer fee rather than allow him to leave for nothing.
Given the competition for places and his injury history, Bajcetic could potentially bring his Liverpool career to an end this summer.
