Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and could make a late move for the 22-year-old before the summer transfer window closes. The Senegal international has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs after impressing in Ligue 1.
The latest report claims journalist Abdel Hamed has indicated that Liverpool are monitoring Camara’s situation and could potentially make an approach late in the window. The interest comes after Liverpool’s midfield was exposed during their recent 2–2 draw with Newcastle United.
Why Liverpool are interested
One of Liverpool’s concerns has been their ability to protect the defence and control matches from midfield. Against Newcastle, they struggled to win the ball consistently in central areas, with Alexis Mac Allister’s introduction helping to improve things later in the game.
Camara is viewed as someone who could provide more defensive security while still contributing going forward. He is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder but also has the technical ability to carry the ball, create opportunities and contribute offensively.
His performances have already attracted significant attention. Monaco rejected a reported £35 million bid from Crystal Palace, while Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with the midfielder.
Liverpool have been watching him for a while
This isn’t a completely new link. Liverpool have reportedly monitored Camara for some time, with the player previously identified alongside Adam Wharton and Mamadou Sangare as midfielders on their radar. Sangare has since moved to Brentford.
Camara also impressed against Liverpool during Monaco’s 3–2 pre-season victory at Anfield, potentially giving Liverpool’s decision-makers another opportunity to assess him closely.
The potential price
Monaco are in a strong negotiating position because Camara is under contract until 2029. Reports have suggested that the French club would demand a substantial fee to consider selling him, with earlier reports putting their valuation around €50 million and some later reports suggesting an even higher figure.
So, while Liverpool are interested, there is no indication yet that a deal is close or that an official bid has been submitted.

Camara’s profile certainly makes sense for Liverpool. He offers defensive aggression, energy and versatility, while also possessing the technical qualities to contribute in possession. One analysis noted that he ranks strongly for defensive actions, touches, chances created, shots and goals among players in his position.
With the transfer window approaching its conclusion, Liverpool now face a decision: stick with their current midfield options or make a significant late investment in Camara.
For now, the story remains at the monitoring/interest stage rather than a confirmed transfer. But with Liverpool reportedly looking for more control and defensive strength in midfield, Lamine Camara is certainly a name worth watching.
