Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the France international is now “ready for his medical,” signalling that Liverpool are closing in on another major attacking addition.
But Barcola cannot be the end of Liverpool’s summer spending.
The Reds still need more firepower, with a naturally right-sided winger and a backup striker among the most logical additions. Without further reinforcements, Andoni Iraola could enter the 2026/27 season with a squad that still lacks sufficient attacking depth.
Richard Hughes has done well to negotiate over Barcola’s price, especially after PSG were previously believed to want around £145m. However, with Liverpool reportedly moving towards a £120m package, including £100m guaranteed, the bigger question is whether waiting so long has actually worked in their favour.
Liverpool have every right to avoid being seen as a club that simply throws money at every target. But the transfer window is now entering its final days, and holding firm over another ÂŁ10m-ÂŁ20m could prove costly.
At this stage, squad depth matters more than winning every negotiation.
If Barcola arrives, Liverpool should immediately turn their attention to a right winger and another striker. The Reds have already made their statement signing — now they need to make sure the rest of the squad is strong enough to compete on every front.
