Arsenal Boosted as Atlético Madrid Line Up Potential Julian Alvarez Replacement
Arsenal have received an encouraging development in their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, with Atlético Madrid reportedly beginning preparations for the possibility of losing the Argentine forward this summer.
Mikel Arteta is believed to be a huge admirer of the 26-year-old, who has emerged as one of Arsenal’s dream attacking targets. Alvarez scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, including against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final.
Despite being under contract at Atlético, Alvarez has reportedly made his desire to leave the Spanish club clear, with Barcelona his preferred destination. However, Atlético have firmly rejected the possibility of him joining Barça before the transfer deadline.
Reports claim Atlético value Alvarez at around £128 million, a figure Arsenal could reportedly be prepared to meet. The major stumbling block remains personal terms, with the player said to favour a move to Barcelona.
Atlético Already Eyeing Alvarez Replacement
Arsenal will be encouraged by reports that Atlético are already considering potential replacements.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Roma forward Donyell Malen has emerged as one possible option. The Dutchman has attracted attention from several major clubs after enjoying an impressive spell in Italy.
Malen joined Roma from Aston Villa on loan in January and quickly became a key player, scoring 14 goals in 18 appearances before Roma triggered his £21.6 million obligation to buy.
The 27-year-old has continued his excellent form this season, recently scoring a hat-trick against Fiorentina.
Roma are reportedly reluctant to sell, particularly after Malen’s value rose significantly, but Atlético are among the clubs monitoring his situation.
If Atlético ultimately move for Malen, it could be a major boost for Arsenal’s hopes of signing Alvarez.
