Real Madrid Make Major Trent Alexander-Arnold Decision After Mourinho Snub
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Real Madrid has become a talking point after new manager Jose Mourinho left the England international out of his starting XI for the club’s opening two La Liga matches.
The former Liverpool right-back has endured a difficult spell since moving to Spain. Injuries disrupted his first season, while limited playing time has made it difficult for him to establish himself as a regular starter.
Alexander-Arnold made only 21 La Liga appearances last season and recorded four assists. His injury problems also contributed to him missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.
Now fully fit, however, the 27-year-old has still found himself behind new signing Denzel Dumfries in Mourinho’s plans. The Dutch defender started both league victories against Espanyol and Real Sociedad.
Trent was given a late appearance during the 2-1 victory over Espanyol but remained an unused substitute in the 4-1 win against Real Sociedad, where Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick.
His lack of regular football has sparked speculation that he could return to the Premier League, with Newcastle among the clubs reportedly being discussed.
European football expert Andy Brassell believes Newcastle could be an ideal destination if a return to Liverpool does not happen. He suggested that a temporary move could give Alexander-Arnold the opportunity to rediscover his best form.
Despite the growing speculation, reports from TEAMtalk claim Real Madrid have no intention of selling Alexander-Arnold this summer.
The Spanish giants reportedly see his early struggles as part of the adjustment process rather than a reason to cut ties with him. The player is also contracted to Real Madrid until 2031 and is said to remain committed to establishing himself at the club.
For now, a Liverpool return appears to be speculation rather than an imminent transfer. However, if Mourinho continues to favour Dumfries, the pressure surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s future could intensify.
Real Madrid’s next match is against Malaga on August 30.
