Tottenham look set to bring in defensive reinforcement after Kevin Danso made it clear he wanted out. Following the 2-0 loss to Newcastle, Roberto De Zerbi confirmed Danso had approached him two days earlier to request a move, putting him alongside Richarlison and Pape Matar Sarr on the list of players looking to leave. The Austrian has now joined Sunderland on loan with an obligation to buy, a departure that’s added extra pressure on Spurs to strengthen at centre-back given how poorly the season has started — two league games, no goals scored, their worst opening since 1974-75.
With a gap to fill, Tottenham moved fast and settled on Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo as their main target. Reports indicate the two clubs have now agreed a permanent deal for the 28-year-old, with personal terms already sorted and Tosin set to undergo a medical before things are finalised. The fee is said to be a modest £7m upfront plus add-ons, making it a relatively cheap pickup.
Should it go through, it would mark the first senior player transfer directly between the two London clubs in 17 years — the last being Carlo Cudicini’s free move from Chelsea to Spurs back in January 2009. Jude Soonsup-Bell’s switch in 2023 doesn’t really count in the same category, since that was an academy-to-under-21 move rather than a senior transfer.
Tosin would give De Zerbi another body at the back to work with alongside Micky van de Ven, Jan-Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi. He joined Chelsea from Fulham on a free in summer 2024 and made 70 appearances for the club, but hasn’t featured at all this season under Xabi Alonso — not even making a matchday squad — which explains why a move away now makes sense for him.
