🚨 Cody Gakpo holds clear-the-air talks with Liverpool after failed transfer

Cody Gakpo has reportedly held “clear-the-air” talks with Liverpool’s hierarchy after the club blocked his proposed move to Manchester City on deadline day.

Gakpo had been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with Tottenham also showing interest before Manchester City made a late push. A move to City reportedly reached the stage of personal terms, but Liverpool ultimately refused to sanction the transfer because they could not secure a suitable replacement.

According to reports from Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad, Gakpo spoke with officials from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) on Monday to help clear the air following the failed move. The situation reportedly came as a surprise to those involved, as there had been an expectation that he could leave Anfield before the window closed.

The 27-year-old has now remained with Liverpool and returned to training with the squad. Despite the disappointment of the failed transfer, reports suggest Gakpo is expected to quickly move on and focus on the season ahead.

Liverpool have also completed the signing of Bradley Barcola, but Gakpo could still retain his starting role, particularly with the new winger needing time to regain match fitness.

In short: Gakpo wanted the move, Liverpool blocked it, and both sides have now held talks to smooth things over. His immediate future appears to be at Liverpool.
