Liverpool Throw Deadline Day Transfer Into Chaos With One Simple Message: “Wait”
Liverpool reportedly played an unexpected role in a dramatic Deadline Day situation after telling both a player and his club to “wait” over a potential future transfer.
The Reds had already completed their summer business, most recently securing the £30 million signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk.
Liverpool also made a huge statement earlier in the window by bringing in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million, alongside Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo, who arrived on loan from Barcelona.
However, one area Liverpool did not strengthen was central midfield, despite supporters hoping the club would add another player in that position.
According to reports, though, Liverpool may already have their sights set on a midfielder for next summer.
Monaco star Lamine Camara appeared certain to join Chelsea after the Blues agreed a £47 million deal for the Senegal international. Camara had reportedly completed his medical and agreed personal terms on a six-year contract.
The move dramatically collapsed at the final moment after Monaco pulled out of the agreement, leaving the midfielder in an uncertain situation.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now claimed that Liverpool contacted both Camara and Monaco during the situation, urging them to “wait” over a possible move in 2027.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Jacobs revealed that Liverpool had reportedly told Camara’s representatives and Monaco that they could return for the player next year.
Importantly, Liverpool were not said to have attempted to hijack Chelsea’s deal. Instead, the Reds reportedly made it clear that while they were not looking to sign Camara immediately, they could revisit the possibility in 2027.
The extraordinary Deadline Day development could therefore have given Liverpool a head start on their midfield plans for next summer.
