Liverpool made enquiry for Chelsea’s Estêvão, but Blues stand firm

Liverpool have opened contact with Chelsea over a possible late move for Estêvão, as the club look for reinforcements in attack before the transfer window shuts.

The approach came after Cody Gakpo’s proposed switch to Manchester City broke down, with Liverpool having rejected a bid worth around £80million for the Dutchman. That left the Reds needing to find an alternative option out wide, and Estêvão emerged as their preferred target.

Sporting director Richard Hughes is understood to have made contact with Chelsea, though the enquiry has been described as informal rather than a concrete bid. Chelsea’s response was blunt — the 19-year-old Brazilian is not for sale, and the club have no interest in negotiating regardless of the figure involved.

Estêvão only joined Chelsea from Palmeiras last year and is tied down on a long-term contract running until 2033. He has already shown flashes of real quality in west London, contributing goals and assists across a productive first season, and Chelsea view him as central to their long-term plans under Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool are said to be weighing up whether to test that resolve with a more direct offer before the deadline passes, but there’s little indication so far that Chelsea’s stance will shift. Manchester City have also been credited with interest, reportedly ready to make Estêvão one of their most expensive signings ever, which only strengthens Chelsea’s determination to keep hold of him.

For now, this remains speculation rather than substance. Liverpool have made their interest known, Chelsea have said no, and unless something changes dramatically in the closing hours of the window, Estêvão looks set to stay put.
