Alexander Isak enjoyed a memorable night as Liverpool secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 2–0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
The Swedish striker opened his Liverpool account in style, scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes. Both goals were created by Cody Gakpo, who delivered two excellent assists to help Liverpool take control of the game early.
After the final whistle, Isak received a huge reception from the travelling Liverpool supporters. Captain Virgil van Dijk and Gakpo made sure their new teammate stayed in front of the fans to receive the appreciation he deserved.
The moment quickly caught the attention of Liverpool supporters, with many praising the pair for helping Isak enjoy his special moment following his impressive performance.
Gakpo himself was outstanding throughout the match. His two assists took his Premier League goal involvements to four this season, underlining just how important he has become to Liverpool’s attack.
Van Dijk had already made clear that Gakpo remains an important player for Liverpool after the winger was linked with a move away from Anfield late in the transfer window. The Dutch defender was delighted to see his compatriot respond with another influential performance.
For Isak, meanwhile, the brace could prove to be a major confidence boost. After a quieter period, the striker looked sharp, clinical and dangerous against Ipswich, giving Liverpool fans plenty of reason to be excited about what could come next.
The result also gave Andoni Iraola his first win as Liverpool manager, with the Reds moving onto five points from their opening three league matches.
Liverpool fans will certainly hope this is only the beginning of a dangerous Isak-Gakpo partnership.
