Pedro Porro is expected to be sidelined for around a month after picking up a hamstring injury, The Athletic reports. The Spanish right-back will miss Tottenham’s return to league action on October 10, when Spurs visit Old Trafford to take on Manchester United after the international break. Coventry City then visit on October 19.
The injury happened during Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa last Saturday and has already forced Porro out of Spain’s squad for the current international window.
It is the latest fitness problem in a stop-start season for the 27-year-old. He missed the opening league game against Brentford after being handed extra rest following the World Cup, and did not make his first appearance until the Carabao Cup tie with Charlton Athletic. He then played against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, but another injury kept him out of the games with Everton and Liverpool. He came back for the Villa match, only to be hurt again.
Spurs will now hope he can be fit for the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on October 24. Until then, Archie Gray is set to continue at right-back, including against United and Coventry.
The timing is poor for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, who are bottom of the Premier League after five games without a win, having drawn two and lost three. The pressure is on the manager to turn things around quickly, and a good result at Old Trafford would go a long way towards lifting confidence, even without Porro available.
