Tottenham’s Kulusevski left magistrates puzzled as speeding case gets pushed back

Dejan Kulusevski’s court date for a speeding case has been pushed back after confusion over his availability. The Tottenham winger was due before magistrates on Monday over an incident last September, when he was clocked at 43mph in a 30mph zone.

Unable to attend because of training commitments, he emailed the court to explain his absence, stressing that his family depends on him being able to drive. He’s already carrying 18 points on his licence, putting him at risk of a ban, and has accepted responsibility for the offence, though he maintains most of his violations were only marginally over the limit.

Because his message didn’t clarify whether he wanted the case heard in his absence or delayed, magistrate Mary Miller opted to adjourn proceedings. The new hearing date is set for 19 October.

On the football side, Kulusevski is nearing a first-team return after more than a year out with a knee problem that wiped out his entire last Premier League season and kept him out of the World Cup — his most recent appearance came back in May 2025. He hasn’t been included in Sweden’s squad under Graham Potter, but he is back training fully with Spurs.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi struck a cautious tone ahead of the Aston Villa match, saying the club needs to manage his workload carefully alongside the medical team. He called Kulusevski a quality player and a good character who deserves game time again, adding that the international break gives him extra time to get to full fitness before returning — something De Zerbi likened to landing a new signing.

Spurs are idle until they travel to face Manchester United on 10 October, kicking off at 5:30pm. They head into that fixture bottom of the Premier League after a difficult start to the campaign.
