Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk is set to depart at the end of the 2026/27 campaign, bringing the curtain down on one of the most defining chapters in Anfield’s history.
As reported by The Athletic, the 34-year-old Dutch defender has just one season left on his current deal, with an anticipated farewell pencilled in for the summer of 2027.
Despite remaining a key figure in Arne Slot’s starting lineup, Liverpool’s clear shift toward younger defensive options indicates that a contract extension is unlikely at this stage.
The development comes amid a wave of notable exits, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson also approaching the final stages of their time at the club. As highlighted by James Pearce, Liverpool’s defensive setup is undergoing a significant transition.
