Guglielmo Vicario has fired back subtly after taking heavy fire from former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, who took aim at the goalkeeper’s conduct during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Everton on Sunday.
The win, which sealed Spurs’ Premier League survival, was overshadowed by sideline drama. Despite being an unused substitute with Antonin Kinsky preferred between the sticks, Vicario still managed to find himself at the heart of a flashpoint during the match.
Video footage from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium captured Vicario in a heated touchline exchange with Everton substitute Seamus Coleman, with the confrontation rapidly intensifying before staff stepped in to cool things down. The Italian was also spotted reacting passionately from the technical area as Spurs clung on for the decisive win.
Agbonlahor, appearing on The Sports Breakfast the following morning, tore into the Italy international, questioning both his attitude and his performances. The pundit went further, branding Vicario’s behaviour an embarrassment and arguing that the club should cut ties with him.
The remarks drew a quick response from Vicario after a clip of Agbonlahor’s criticism circulated on social media. The goalkeeper kept his reply short and cryptic, posting just one word: “Scary.”
Far from ending the back-and-forth, that single word only stoked the fire further, with Agbonlahor shooting back with an equally brief dismissal of his own, calling the goalkeeper a bluffer.
Vicario has been at Spurs since arriving from Empoli in 2023 and swiftly became the club’s undisputed first choice, though his standing has come under scrutiny after a run of matches in which Kinsky was selected ahead of him. He missed a portion of the season’s closing stages while recovering from hernia surgery.
The spat adds another layer of noise to what promises to be a turbulent summer at Tottenham, with widespread changes to the squad reported to be under consideration following yet another inconsistent campaign.
