Romano Delivers Significant Savinho Update as Tottenham Close In on Manchester City Winger

Tottenham Hotspur’s transformation under Roberto De Zerbi is picking up speed, with one of their most coveted targets seemingly drawing nearer to a move to North London.

Having narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Spurs have moved swiftly to overhaul their squad for the season ahead. Andy Robertson has already arrived on a free transfer to shore up the left-back position, while a verbal agreement is understood to have been reached over a deal for centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Despite that early business, Tottenham’s recruitment team has turned much of its attention to bolstering the wide attacking areas, with Manchester City’s Savinho identified as a primary target.

This is not the first time Spurs have pursued the Brazilian. They made an attempt to sign him last summer, only for City to shut down any exit and hand him a new contract. A year on, the landscape looks considerably different. A difficult season at the Etihad, combined with Pep Guardiola’s departure, has left City more willing to entertain offers for the 22-year-old.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has offered an encouraging update on proceedings, indicating that personal terms are not expected to pose a problem. Romano reports that Savinho remains genuinely keen on joining Spurs and is excited by the project De Zerbi is building, with the player’s attitude described as very positive. The journalist added that Savinho was attracted to Tottenham a year ago and his enthusiasm has not dimmed, suggesting a personal agreement could come together swiftly. The remaining sticking point is the fee between the two clubs.

The rumour mill was further stirred earlier this week when Xavi Simons posted a throwback photo alongside Savinho from their days together at PSV Eindhoven, with many supporters reading the gesture as a knowing nod toward an imminent reunion in North London.

The need to strengthen the flanks has become pressing for De Zerbi. Injuries to Simons and Wilson Odobert have stripped the squad of creativity and pace out wide, and Savinho is seen as someone who can address that problem immediately. His ability to beat defenders, contribute goals, and function across various attacking roles makes him a natural fit for De Zerbi’s attacking, possession-oriented system.

Though his spell at Manchester City has not always allowed him to shine, Savinho is widely regarded as one of the most gifted young wide players on the continent. At 22, he represents both a ready-made option for next season and a significant long-term asset.

With the player’s desire to join reportedly firm, Tottenham’s focus now shifts to agreeing a fee with City. Should they get that deal done, De Zerbi will have added another exciting component to what is shaping up to be a serious rebuilding effort in North London.
