Tottenham Target €50M Premier League Talent Despite Club’s Relegation!

Spurs are accelerating their summer rebuild with one goal in mind: securing European football next season.

Three signings are already in the bag, the latest being Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke, and the focus now shifts to bringing in ready-made starters who can immediately lift Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Tonali Chase Heats Up

Tottenham remain locked in on Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, despite facing serious competition from Arsenal and Manchester City. De Zerbi is reportedly driving the pursuit himself, drawn to the Italian’s energy, technical quality, and bite in midfield battles.

Tipped as Spurs’ potential marquee signing of the summer, Tonali could cost as much as £100million all-in — a fee the club appear ready to pay. But that’s not where their summer plans end.

Spurs Also Track West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports Tottenham have also registered interest in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, though Manchester United are currently in pole position, already discussing wages and terms with the player’s camp.

Valued around €50million, Fernandes was a rare highlight in an otherwise grim relegation campaign for West Ham. Across 36 Premier League outings, the 21-year-old chipped in with seven goal involvements, standing out for his energy, technical ability, and eye-catching long-range strikes.

With West Ham bracing for an exodus this summer, Fernandes looks destined to leave — and while United have already opened formal talks, Spurs are gearing up to join the race. Ornstein notes De Zerbi is again central to Tottenham’s interest, and that this move is entirely separate from the Tonali pursuit.

United Hold the Upper Hand

Tottenham have a strong track record developing young talent, and Fernandes — already proven across two Premier League seasons — fits that profile perfectly. His form suggests he’s outgrown Championship football, making a summer move almost certain.

Spurs’ ambition to land both Tonali and Fernandes is clear, but United remain favourites for the Portuguese midfielder. Fernandes has previously named Bruno Fernandes as a childhood idol and major influence, giving United a notable advantage. Add to that the financial strain of funding both deals simultaneously, and it seems unlikely Tottenham will walk away with both players when the window shuts.
