HEARTBREAK! SPURS BRUTALLY AXE FAN-FAVOURITE HERO DESPITE EUROPA LEAGUE GLORY!

Lucas Bergvall is weighing up his future at Tottenham Hotspur, with the young Swede keen to secure more consistent first-team action heading into the 2026/27 season.

The 20-year-old, currently on World Cup duty with Sweden, has made his desire to leave North London clear this summer — with a fresh challenge and regular minutes top of his agenda.

Frozen Out Under De Zerbi

Bergvall’s push for the exit door is largely down to limited opportunities under Roberto De Zerbi. In the Italian’s six-game spell at the helm towards the end of last season, the midfielder managed just 112 minutes of action — one start and a string of cameos off the bench.

The Swede joined Spurs from Djurgården in the 2024 winter window and is contracted until June 2031. Before choosing Tottenham, he had attracted serious interest from Barcelona and even held talks with their sporting director Deco — making his eventual destination all the more surprising if he now heads for the exit.

Spurs Backing De Zerbi’s Rebuild

Bergvall’s potential departure comes as Tottenham press ahead with their summer overhaul. An £80 million bid for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali has already been knocked back, but Spurs aren’t deterred.

After narrowly escaping relegation last season, CEO Vinai Venkatesham and non-executive chairman Peter Charrington have pledged serious investment to ensure there’s no repeat of last campaign’s struggles — a promise that follows fierce criticism over a underwhelming January window that left the squad desperately short on depth.

De Zerbi has the full backing of the board — with even former executive chairman Daniel Levy having long admired the Italian. Jan Paul van Hecke, his trusted centre-back from Brighton, has already arrived for £52 million as the rebuild gathers pace.

The Road Ahead

Tottenham kick off their 2026/27 Premier League campaign with a tricky away trip to Brentford on August 22, before welcoming Newcastle to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 29 for De Zerbi’s first home league game of a new era.
