Tottenham Discover Liverpool’s Asking Price for Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur have received a major lift in their pursuit of Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, with fresh reports claiming the Reds are prepared to consider offers for the Netherlands international during the summer transfer window.

Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a fee that could rise to £44.3 million. Since arriving at Anfield, he has contributed 50 goals and 23 assists in 180 appearances. Despite those impressive numbers, his inconsistent performances during the 2025/26 campaign frustrated sections of the Liverpool fanbase, with many believing academy talent Rio Ngumoha deserved more opportunities under former manager Arne Slot.

His mixed form has fuelled speculation over his future, with Tottenham emerging as one of the clubs keen on securing his signature. New Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly eager to strengthen his options on the left wing, and journalist Graeme Bailey says discussions have already taken place between the clubs. BBC Sport’s Aadam Patel adds that Liverpool would demand more than £60 million for the Dutch forward.

Gakpo has refused to be drawn into transfer talk, insisting his attention remains on the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign. While he admitted he enjoys having more freedom with the national team, he declined to expand on the comment.

Liverpool journalist Dave Lynch claims Fenway Sports Group would be open to selling Gakpo if a suitable offer arrives, admitting he was surprised by the club’s willingness to listen to bids.

“I honestly didn’t see it coming,” Lynch said. “I expected Liverpool to keep him for another season, but it appears they’re willing to cash in if the right offer is made.”

Lynch also suggested PSG winger Bradley Barcola could be considered as a replacement, with the Frenchman reportedly delaying talks over a new contract in Paris. However, he acknowledged that several factors would need to align before such a move could become realistic.

Despite the speculation, not everyone believes Gakpo is heading for the exit. The Athletic’s James Pearce maintains the Dutchman is likely to remain at Liverpool, with new manager Andoni Iraola expected to build his attacking plans around Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, new signing Victor Munoz, and top transfer target Yan Diomande.
