Tottenham Hotspur are pressing ahead with their pursuit of Sandro Tonali despite Newcastle United’s firm stance, as Roberto De Zerbi simultaneously plots a major attacking overhaul ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Tonali Pursuit Intensifies
The Italian midfielder remains Tottenham’s top transfer priority after another exceptional season at St James’ Park, where he made over 50 appearances and consistently demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest central midfielders.
Spurs saw an opening offer of around £80 million swiftly rejected, with Newcastle demanding well over £100 million for a player Eddie Howe considers absolutely indispensable. The Magpies are holding firm — but so are Tottenham, who have no intention of walking away from their prime target.
Savinho Back On The Agenda
While Tonali talks continue, De Zerbi is equally determined to strengthen his attack. Savinho remains firmly in Spurs’ sights after an unsuccessful attempt to sign the Brazilian last summer when Manchester City blocked any move and handed him a new contract.
The situation has shifted considerably since then. With Savinho struggling to nail down a regular starting spot at the Etihad last season, reports indicate he is now far more receptive to a move to North London.
Marmoush And Gakpo Also Targeted
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Tottenham are also preparing moves for Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush and Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, with sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham determined to back De Zerbi with serious firepower.
Spurs are hoping to secure at least one of the pair, with their attacking pursuit expected to accelerate once progress is made on the Tonali deal.
Marmoush brings explosive pace, intelligent movement and a direct attacking style that has made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards. Gakpo offers proven quality and impressive versatility — capable of operating on the left or through the middle — and finished last season with nine goals and six assists across 50+ appearances for Liverpool.
The Dutchman carried that rich vein of form into the World Cup, netting twice against Uzbekistan in a warm-up before delivering a brace and an assist in the Netherlands’ stunning 5-1 demolition of Sweden.
Eye-Watering Price Tags
None of these deals will come cheap. Pedullà describes both attacking pursuits as financially demanding. Liverpool could reportedly consider offers of around £60 million for Gakpo, while Marmoush — who cost City approximately £68 million — is expected to command an even higher fee.
Tottenham’s ambition this summer is clear for all to see. De Zerbi wants to build something special at Spurs — and the club’s hierarchy are backing him every step of the way.
