Tottenham Hotspur have joined a packed field of suitors for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, with the Spain international seen as a viable option as Roberto De Zerbi works to reshape his forward line ahead of the new campaign.
Having already bolstered their defence and midfield through several marquee signings, Spurs are now shifting focus toward strengthening their attack. The club are still keen to bring in both a striker and a flexible wide player, a need made more urgent by injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons.
Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi remains a player Tottenham like, but with the Cherries standing firm on keeping him, the club are looking at other possibilities.
Ferran Torres is reportedly one of those alternatives. The ex-Manchester City forward is drawing interest from multiple clubs across Europe, with Tottenham among those keeping tabs on him alongside Aston Villa, Napoli and Juventus.
That said, Atletico Madrid are said to currently hold the upper hand in the race, having pushed hardest to get a deal over the line before the window shuts.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking to freshen up their own attack, with Karim Adeyemi among the names they’re exploring. Given that Torres has just one year left on his contract, the Catalan club are reportedly open to letting him go for around £30 million, making him a tempting target for interested parties.
While no formal talks have taken place yet between Torres and any of the interested clubs, internal discussions at Barcelona suggest there’s a willingness to sell and reinvest the proceeds elsewhere.
For Tottenham, Torres would bring experience and adaptability to their frontline options. Whether the club push harder for him may come down to how their other attacking pursuits unfold in the coming weeks, but with strong competition from across Europe, De Zerbi’s side may need to act fast if they want to get ahead in the race.
