Liverpool will keep Alisson Becker as their first-choice goalkeeper for the 2026/27 season, despite previously being expected to leave the club after eight years at Anfield.
Juventus had reportedly held positive talks with the Brazilian and were preparing a deal worth around €15 million (£12.8m). However, the situation changed towards the end of May, with both Liverpool and Alisson deciding to continue together for another season.
Why Juventus wanted Alisson
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that the Italian club explored a move for Alisson because of his experience at the highest level.
After Juventus completed a loan move for Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Spalletti explained that the club had considered experienced options such as Alisson and Emiliano Martinez as they looked to strengthen the position.
Spalletti ultimately felt Vicario could provide the required experience, pointing to his success in competitions and his previous spell at a major European club.
Could Alisson still leave Liverpool in 2027?
Juventus could potentially revive their interest next summer, with Alisson’s current Liverpool contract set to expire in 2027.
Liverpool previously triggered a 12-month extension in his contract, reportedly as a way of protecting his transfer value. However, the club’s stance changed after other factors made his departure less appealing, including the importance of retaining experienced figures within the dressing room.
It remains uncertain whether Liverpool will offer Alisson another contract or continue planning for his eventual replacement.
There are also questions surrounding Giorgi Mamardashvili, particularly regarding his distribution. The Georgian goalkeeper made 20 appearances during his first season at Liverpool, largely filling in when Alisson was unavailable through injury.
For now, Alisson remains Liverpool’s No. 1, but Juventus could return with another approach when his contract situation becomes clearer.
