Liverpool are continuing their efforts to sign Bradley Barcola this summer, with the Paris Saint-Germain winger appearing increasingly unhappy with his current situation at the club.
The 23-year-old looked visibly disappointed after PSG’s 1-0 defeat to Lens in the Trophée des Champions, having been left out of the matchday squad altogether. His omission comes amid growing speculation that he could leave the Parc des Princes before the transfer window closes.
Barcola has been strongly linked with Liverpool throughout the summer and is reportedly one of the Reds’ main attacking targets. The situation intensified after the Frenchman turned down a contract extension, leaving PSG open to the possibility of selling him despite having two years remaining on his current deal.
PSG’s addition of three attacking players since then has further increased speculation over Barcola’s future. However, negotiations with Liverpool remain complicated by a significant difference in the two clubs’ valuations of the player.
After returning to pre-season training, Barcola’s situation has continued to raise questions. He was an unused substitute in the UEFA Super Cup before being completely omitted from the squad for the clash with Lens.
Instead, Barcola watched the game from the stands alongside Ibrahim Mbaye, another player reportedly attracting Liverpool’s interest. Their presence away from the matchday squad could be a sign that both players’ futures remain uncertain with the transfer deadline approaching.
Following PSG’s defeat, Barcola quickly made his way through the mixed zone. With his head down, he avoided reporters and appeared visibly dejected as he left the stadium, potentially reflecting his frustration over his current situation.
Whether that was Barcola’s final appearance as part of the PSG squad remains uncertain. A transfer of this size could still require considerable negotiations between Liverpool and the French champions.
Barcola has remained silent about his future, but PSG manager Luis Enrique has refused to rule out departures.
Speaking after the match, Enrique said: “I’ll talk about the situation after the transfer window has passed.”
The comments have only added to the uncertainty surrounding Barcola and Mbaye, while Liverpool continue to explore the possibility of signing both players.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can reach an agreement with PSG. A double move for Barcola and Mbaye could ultimately prove beneficial for both the players and the clubs involved.
