Cristian Romero Hits Out at Tottenham’s Leadership After Players Clash With Away Supporters

Tottenham Hotspur skipper Cristian Romero took to Instagram after Wednesday’s painful 3–2 loss to Bournemouth, a match that ended with heated exchanges between Spurs players and their travelling fans.

Spurs made a fast start as Mathys Tel struck inside five minutes, firing low past Djordje Petrovic. Bournemouth hit back through Evanilson in the 17th minute before Eli Junior Kroupi put the hosts in front just before the break.

Joao Palhinha spectacularly hauled Tottenham level in the 78th minute with an acrobatic bicycle kick, but Antoine Semenyo snatched a dramatic winner in the 95th minute, virtually his last action of the game.

Tempers flared at full time, with frustrations spilling over between the players and supporters.
In his message, Romero apologised to the fans and accepted responsibility on behalf of the squad. He also aimed criticism at the club’s leadership, claiming they stay silent during difficult moments and only speak up after wins. “In moments like this, others should be coming out to talk, but they don’t,” Romero said. “We’ll remain here, keep working, stay united, and give everything to change this situation.”

Several teammates, including Richarlison and Pedro Porro, publicly backed Romero’s comments.
Tottenham’s problems have persisted since the change from Ange Postecoglou — who guided the club to their first European trophy in May — to Thomas Frank.

The Bournemouth defeat leaves Spurs without a win in three matches, following draws against Brentford and Sunderland. Frank, appointed in July 2025, has overseen 30 games, averaging 1.37 points per match.

Spurs now turn their attention to an FA Cup clash with Aston Villa, a home league derby against West Ham, and a Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 20.
