Tottenham have “no chance” of hiring Mauricio Pochettino before the World Cup, sources told Football Insider.
The former Spurs manager is fully focused on leading the USA in their home tournament, meaning any deal will have to wait until after the team is eliminated, even as pressure mounts on Thomas Frank.
If Frank is sacked, Tottenham could appoint an interim manager while planning a future approach for Pochettino. The 53-year-old remains attractive to the club, having achieved Spurs’ first Champions League final and their highest Premier League finish in years. He also knows the club well, and the hierarchy sees him as proven in English football.
Pochettino joined the USA national team in September 2024 on a contract running through the World Cup. The team wanted a high-profile coach for their home tournament, and once his deal ends, Spurs could approach him without paying compensation. His brief time at Chelsea hasn’t harmed his reputation with Spurs.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler is another candidate on Tottenham’s radar. Despite being only 32, the German impressed with Brighton, leading them to eighth in his first Premier League season and currently on course for another solid finish. Under contract until 2027, he may still be tempted by Spurs in the coming months.
