Tottenham are pushing to complete a deal for Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson before the transfer window shuts.
Robertson has been a key figure at Anfield since joining in 2017, playing a major role in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. During his time with the Reds, he has lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
But following the summer arrival of Milos Kerkez, the Scotland international has seen his minutes reduced. With his role diminished, speculation over a move away from Liverpool has grown — and Spurs have now emerged as serious suitors, sparking frustration among Liverpool supporters.
Liverpool fans angered by Robertson exit links
Liverpool’s season has already been a difficult one. Despite significant spending in the summer, results have not matched expectations, and Arne Slot’s side are effectively out of the title race.
The Reds currently sit fourth in the league but are under pressure after four consecutive draws, leaving them at risk of sliding further down the table. This poor run has led to growing criticism of Slot, with some fans even calling for his dismissal amid fears of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Against this backdrop, reports from The Athletic on January 23 that talks were progressing over a mid-season move for Robertson to Tottenham infuriated supporters — especially given Liverpool’s lack of depth at left-back.
Tsimikas recall seen as essential
If Liverpool do decide to cash in on Robertson, recalling Konstantinos Tsimikas would be unavoidable. Going into the second half of the season with just one senior left-back would be a major risk, particularly with the club still competing on multiple fronts.
Kerkez has struggled for consistency since arriving and would benefit from added competition. While Tsimikas may not be a long-term solution, his return would help maintain balance until a more permanent fix is found in the summer.
The Greek defender is currently on loan at Roma, where he has failed to secure a regular starting spot and is mostly used from the bench. Whether Slot chooses to recall him before the window closes remains uncertain.
