Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with suggestions that their interest has been in place for a while, even though no formal approach has yet been made to Anfield.
Spurs have long been admirers of the 24-year-old, valuing his technical skill, versatility in midfield and attacking creativity. However, Liverpool and head coach Arne Slot view Jones as a key part of the club’s future, making a potential transfer highly improbable.
A boyhood Liverpool supporter, Jones has openly spoken in the past about his ambition to follow in the footsteps of his idol Steven Gerrard by spending his entire career at the club. Having progressed through the academy to establish himself in the first team, he is considered one of Liverpool’s standout homegrown players. Former manager Jürgen Klopp has previously described him as an “exceptional” talent.
Although Tottenham brought in Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid earlier in the January window, their midfield issues persist. Ongoing injury problems have exposed a lack of depth in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, forcing the club to explore additional reinforcements.
João Palhinha is the latest to be sidelined, with his injury expected to keep him out for several weeks, while Rodrigo Bentancur is also facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines. These absences have left Spurs stretched in central midfield and intensified their search for a player who offers creativity, ball-carrying ability and goal threat — attributes Jones has regularly demonstrated when fit.
Liverpool, though, are not open to selling unless they receive an extraordinary bid.
With Spurs currently hovering in the lower half of the Premier League table, pressure is increasing on Thomas Frank to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes. As injuries pile up and the race for European qualification heats up, Tottenham are well aware that strengthening their midfield could be vital for the remainder of the season.
