Tottenham Make Mateta Move a Priority as De Zerbi Faces Major Striker Problem

Tottenham considering Jean-Philippe Mateta move as striker crisis deepens

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly consider a January move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as Roberto De Zerbi searches for a solution to Spurs’ worrying lack of goals.

Despite spending more than £300 million during the summer transfer window, Tottenham failed to bring in a recognised centre-forward. That decision is already being questioned after Spurs opened the Premier League season without scoring in their first three matches.

Their latest performance, a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, highlighted the problem even further, with Tottenham failing to register a single shot on target.

Mateta has now emerged as a potential option for Tottenham, with reports suggesting the club could revisit their interest in the French striker when the January transfer window opens.

The 29-year-old also has an uncertain situation at Crystal Palace. Mateta previously challenged the final year of his contract but was unsuccessful in his appeals, while Palace have been keen to retain him.

For De Zerbi, signing Mateta could provide the physical presence and Premier League experience currently missing from Tottenham’s attack.

With Spurs already under pressure following their disappointing start, their need for a proven goalscorer could become one of the biggest stories of the January transfer window. If the goal drought continues, Tottenham may have little choice but to return to the market for a striker—and Mateta could be one of the names at the top of their list.
