Tottenham handed major opportunity to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leão.

The AC Milan winger had emerged as an ambitious target for Tottenham during the final stages of the transfer window. However, despite interest from Spurs and other Premier League clubs, the Portugal international appears to have his sights set on another destination if he decides to leave San Siro.

Rafael Leão chooses Galatasaray over Tottenham

According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Rafael Leão has turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham after being offered to the North London club.

The report claims that the 27-year-old instead prefers a move to Galatasaray, with the Turkish champions currently his first choice should Milan approve his departure before the transfer deadline.

That comes as a setback for Spurs, who are still looking to strengthen their attack despite completing a major deal for Savinho.

The situation has developed rapidly, with A Spor also reporting that Leão has told AC Milan that Galatasaray would be his preferred destination if he leaves the club.

The Turkish outlet further claims that the forward has rejected other approaches while waiting to discover whether a move to Galatasaray can be finalised.

Tottenham should move on from Leão

From Tottenham’s perspective, there is little value in spending the final days of the transfer window trying to convince Leão to change his mind.

The Portuguese winger would certainly have been an exciting addition. His blistering pace, excellent dribbling and physical strength could make him a major threat in the Premier League.

However, a major transfer works best when the player is fully committed to the move.

If Leão’s priority is genuinely Galatasaray, Tottenham would be better off focusing their efforts on an attacker who is eager to join Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

Spurs have already shown significant ambition this summer, and their plans for the attack should not depend entirely on one player.

While missing out on Leão may initially seem disappointing, avoiding a costly deal for a player who is not fully convinced could ultimately work in Tottenham’s favour.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Rafael Leão has taken a disappointing turn, with the AC Milan star reportedly making it clear that his preferred destination lies elsewhere.

The Portuguese winger became an ambitious option for Spurs late in the transfer window as the club continued searching for further attacking reinforcements following the arrival of Savinho.

However, transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims Leão has rejected the opportunity to move to Tottenham after being offered to the Premier League side.

Instead, the 27-year-old reportedly has his eyes firmly set on Galatasaray and would prefer a move to the Turkish champions if Milan agree to let him leave before the deadline.

A Spor has echoed those claims, reporting that Leão has informed AC Milan of his preference for Galatasaray. The outlet also suggests that the forward has turned down alternative approaches while waiting to see whether the move to Turkey can be completed.

For Tottenham, the smartest response may be to walk away.

There is no doubt Leão would bring enormous quality to De Zerbi’s attack. His acceleration, power and ability to beat defenders one-on-one would make him a dangerous Premier League weapon.

But Spurs should not chase a player who has already made his preference clear.

If Leão wants Galatasaray, Tottenham can redirect their attention towards an attacker who is genuinely enthusiastic about joining the project.

Missing out on a star of Leão’s calibre may sting, but refusing to overpay for an unwilling target could prove to be one of Tottenham’s smartest decisions of the window.
