Sources: Tottenham consider U-turn on Randal Kolo Muani with replacement ready

Tottenham appear to have reconsidered their stance on Randal Kolo Muani’s future and could now be open to ending his loan spell early before the transfer window closes.

The 27-year-old forward is currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, but Juventus are monitoring his situation and the player would be open to a return to Turin this month. As discussed on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Spurs’ pursuit of alternative attacking targets could pave the way for Kolo Muani’s exit.

A potential late move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta could prove decisive after Tottenham were made aware of his availability. However, with several factors to consider on both sides, completing any deal before the 2 February deadline may prove challenging.

Tottenham consider Kolo Muani U-turn
Kolo Muani has faced criticism from sections of the Spurs fanbase this season, with some believing he is unsettled in North London and would prefer a return to Juventus. The Serie A giants are keen to take over his loan deal, especially after missing out on Mateta themselves.

Tottenham had previously been unwilling to sanction his departure due to limited attacking depth, but that position could soften if a replacement is secured.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, it was explained that Spurs are long-term admirers of Mateta, though any move would likely depend on outgoing players. A shortened Kolo Muani loan could free up space in the squad and allow Tottenham to push ahead with their interest in the Palace striker.

Despite Kolo Muani scoring in the win over Eintracht Frankfurt that secured Spurs a place in the last 16, Juventus remain in the market for a striker and view him as an ideal option given his successful previous spell in Turin.
While Tottenham have insisted they are reluctant to let players leave, Mateta’s availability could make them more flexible. With Kolo Muani neither a regular starter nor a consistent goalscorer, a move back to Juventus may suit all parties involved.

That scenario could then open the door for Spurs to pursue Mateta, though the situation remains complex and dependent on several moving parts.

Omar Marmoush latest
Mateta is not the only forward Tottenham have been linked with late in the window, as speculation continues over Omar Marmoush’s future at Manchester City. Spurs are long-term admirers of the Egyptian international and considered a move for him last summer.

However, Football Insider reported on 27 January that Manchester City have no intention of selling Marmoush mid-season, with Pep Guardiola keen to keep his squad intact as they compete on multiple fronts. The 26-year-old is also hopeful of earning a larger role.
Although Aston Villa and Tottenham have both been credited with interest this winter, a deal now appears unlikely before the window closes.
